LOTR RPG
Author: Tyler / Category: UncategorizedFor a long while I’ve had an idea of using the Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game (by Decipher) in conjunction with other literature I’ve found as a tool for ministry. Mainly using a fun, fellowship activity in a non-threatening environment to introduce other geeks like me to the power of our Lord of all things.
Now I don’t want to do what Tolkien himself said he didn’t do. The Lord of the Rings is not an allegory. In fact the stories were made to be just that, stories. They are fictional works to be taken as entertaining. Not as a great Christian outreach tool. However Tolkien’s life beliefs definitely shown through his works. And so I believe if given completely to God and let him take my nerdy talents He can use it to further the Kingdom.
Unfortunately for me Decipher has discontinued their beautifully designed role-playing game, but they have given me plenty of information to go on. And I own most all of the books they published. Also there are wonderful resources like Hall of Fire Magazine and others that are adding more stuff. And of corse I can be a pretty creative person myself, and I know quite a bit of the land of Arda and Tolkien’s universe.
Also as far as the ministry aspect goes I have the book “Finding God in the Lord of the Rings.” And a couple other devotionals about similar things.

I think your new look is stunning. Love it.
When I first met you you had this dream. Though I can not yet comprehend it I know your heart is in the right place and I wish you to keep pursuing it and may the Lord direct your steps in this area.
I hope eventually you’ll get some other people’s feedback about this. This is a great blog post topic.
Love you!

The pastor here at Heartland Community Curch in North Liberty really likes the idea. He said don’t hesitate to ask if there is something I need from him or the church to get that going.
I think I want to do something like a Saturday night. Since we just changed back to one service at 10, rather than two starting at 9, that gives me more time to rest on Sunday morning, in case we go a little long Saturday night. I still have some work to do, but if I can find enough intrested people I might be able to get this thing rolling.
